Claiming the Future

Of the many blogs being posted on this Labor Day, I recommend this one from Bill Fletcher, which concludes with the following:

On Labor Day, let’s do more than participate in social events and cookouts.  Let’s do a bit more than celebrate labor’s past.  Let’s get engaged in the fight to claim the future.

As Bill argues, labor cannot organize its way out of the current crisis. While organizing and collective bargaining are vital, these should be seen as part of a bigger strategy for building both political and economic power. His recommendations for building power include creating a working people's agenda and workers assemblies.
